Ingredients:
- 1 bottle of Chinese beer**
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon g cinnamon
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 teaspoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 2 teaspoons five spice powder, divided
- 1 tablespoon flour (or 1 T cornstarch dissolved in a little water)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 teaspoons chopped ginger
- 4 whole lamb shanks
- lime juice, if needed
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (1 tablespoon if you like it spicy)
- 3 teaspoons Chinese rice wine
- salt & pepper
- cup soy sauce
- 1 star anise pod
- 2 teaspoons tamarind concentrate*
