  • canola oil, for frying (peanut oil if available)
  • 4 cloves garlic (or garlic powder)
  • 2-inch piece peeled ginger (or ginger powder)
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1, 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp red chili garlic sauce (or red chili peppers)
  • 1 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp salt and pepper
  • sesame seeds & scallions (garnish)
